Asset-Based Platform

Asset-Based Platform is the segment of MWL's business in which we operate like an asset-based carrier. Upon receiving an award of business, MWL drops the appropriate number of trailers into the customer's trailer pool, and provides committed capacity (the same universe of tractors, trailers, and drivers) when servicing the business day-in and day-out. Asset-Based Platform was originally MWL's only business, and it remains 75% of MWL's overall business today.

Operationally, the Asset-Based Platform model is indistinguishable from an actual asset-based service. In fact, certain shippers that only use asset-based carriers in their carrier mix also utilize MWL's Asset-Based Platform services.

Asset-Based Platform is a model that is unique to MWL, and is an area in which MWL has the market-shaping expertise. Developed at MWL's inception, the model enables MWL to efficiently aggregate capacity across multiple modes of transportation (for the benefit of MWL's customers) by leveraging MWL's strong, unique and strategic relationships with a few best-of-breed asset-based carriers.

Over the years, MWL has developed and refined a set of proprietary processes (customer-specific, carrier-specific and mode-specific) which govern the Asset-Based Platform activities. In the hands of a smart, well-educated workforce, and combined with robust technology, these proprietary processes drive the effectiveness and efficiency of MWL's unique Asset-Based Platform model.

In terms of geographic scope, MWL provides Asset-Based Platform services throughout the North American continent (i.e., the contiguous 48 states, as well as Canada and Mexico). MWL's current Asset-Based Platform book of business involves transporting freight out of practically every one of the contiguous 48 states, as well as Canada and Mexico. MWL's current Asset-Based Platform capabilities enable it to transport freight out of every area on the North American continent.
